Kota Cable Stayed Bridge, India
The nominated Employer's Representative in accordance with the modified FIDIC Conditions of Contract for EPC/Turnkey Projects, residing at the project site and responsible for finalising the design methodology, technical specifications, proof checking of the design/drawings submitted by the contractor, and ensuring execution of the works on site comply with the project specification and standards. Overall responsibility for Louis Berger's operations at site including guiding, supervising, coordinating and monitoring the work of the team experts whilst interacting with the Employer's Project Director (NHAI) as well as with the corporate office. An overall project length of 1350m comprising 300m approach road, 400m access bridge and 700m post tensioned reinforced concrete cable stayed bridge with a 350m clear centre span over the Chambal River. Total project cost US$60M.

Doha Expressway Programme, Qatar
Responsible for the design and programme management for the Doha South Area totalling over ten live projects at various stages of design and construction; and comprising over one hundred kilometres of multi-lane carriageways and service roads, thirty five grade separated junctions and interchanges, and five kilometres of elevated highway. Total works estimated over US$ 8.0 billion.

Incheon Cable Stayed Bridge
Based on site and responsible for the management of the D&C Contractor’s design, advising on construction quality and remedial works, factory and fabrication / testing inspections, alternative design and construction proposals, assessment and evaluation of claims and management of specialist advisors for this 12.35km bridge project incorporating a 1480m cable-stayed bridge, 1800m balanced cantilever bridge and 8400m full span launched viaduct. Total project cost US$1.3 billion.

Principal Bridge Engineer
Halcrow Group (2004 - 2005)

Responsible for the management, preliminary design and feasibility study of the substructure to the 5.8km extradosed crossing of the Padma River for the Jamuna Bridge Authority in Bangladesh. All work was carried out in the Dhaka project office of the lead Japanese Consultant Nippon Koei. Total project cost US$1.2 billion.

Secondment to Maunsell Australia – Responsible for the bridge designs on various projects including the Mitcham-Frankston Freeway in Melbourne and the West Link M7 in Sydney

Design Co-ordination Manager
Manager of the design co-ordination team, on the construction site in Taiwan, to provide project management, technical co-ordination and construction support for two adjacent contracts of the Taiwan High Speed Rail Project. Responsibilities included liaison with the local independent checking consultant and the Taiwan High Speed Rail Company in order to secure design approvals prior to construction. The works comprised approximately 50km of post tensioned reinforced concrete viaduct including two stations’ approaches and four major river crossings through areas of high seismic activity.

Ho-Ping 2 X 650MW Coal-Fired Power Station Taiwan – Based on the station construction site and responsible for co-ordinating all the civil design from local civil and architectural consultants, together with support for the civil construction by providing rapid solutions to construction related problems.

Manjung 3 X 700MW Coal-Fired Power Station Malaysia - Based in the local civil designer’s office in Kuala Lumpur responsible for co-ordinating, monitoring and reviewing the design, providing technical advice together with site liaison for resolving construction related inquiries. This also required strict control of key quantities to maintain budget, and programme dates for the release of design information from the multi-disciplinary design team to the construction site.

  • Hyatt Regency Hotel - Design and on site project co-ordination of this £56.0M hotel
  • Port Services Headquarters - Structural assessment, repair proposals and co-ordination of reinforced concrete repair contract (£0.75M)
  • Masirah Island Jetty - Structural inspection and repair feasibility study (up to £2.25M)
  • Haima Hospital - Structural investigation including site investigation and repair assessment (£0.9M)

Bridge Engineer

Responsible for the design, construction supervision, and assessment of various highway structures for a number of major schemes including the M66 Manchester Outer Ring Road. These comprised miscellaneous highway structures including multi-span steel and concrete bridges with integral supports, secant piled retaining wall and signal gantries of reinforced concrete and aluminium construction.

A6(M) Stockport North South Bypass Structures: - Responsible for Approval in Principle submissions, design supervision and execution of various structures to BS 5400 as amended by the appropriate BD's. These included continuous and simply supported multi-span bridges of precast pre-tensioned, in-situ post-tensioned and composite steel construction, on spread footing and in-situ concrete piled foundations.

Also responsible for the design of miscellaneous retaining wall structures include sheet piled, secant pile and conventional reinforced concrete cantilever walls supporting up to 9.0 metres of fill / original ground.

Responsible for the inspection and assessment of various bridge structures including a multi-span post-tensioned precast concrete segmental spine beam deck, and a single span steel / wrought iron road bridge over the River Dane

Managing the design team responsible for the tender and detail designs of the preliminary site works, including drainage, water supplies and ancillary structures, for West Burton 'B' 1800MW coal-fired power station (£20.0M). The station extension was sited on ash fill from the first stage.

Assistant Project Engineer (1987 to 1988)
Jointly responsible for the budgetary control and co ordination of work carried out by specialist design groups. Also responsible for feasibility reports on three potential sites for the construction of 1800MW coal fired power stations

Acting Resident Engineer (1986)
Supervising construction and quality control of the Ancillary Buildings Contract to Pulrose Power Station, comprising the workshops, stores and the cooling tower foundation (£0.5M).

Graduate Engineer (1985 to 1986)
Responsible for the design of various marine structures including an offshore fuel berth for Vasilikos Power Station, comprising a 200 metre long composite concrete jetty head on large diameter piles, with 4 number mooring dolphins, and a 1300 metre long shore arm (£25M).

Deputy Resident Engineer - Holywell Inner Ring Road (1985)
Responsible for the supervision of construction of highway pavement, bridge and retaining wall works including a 1200mm-diameter storm drain by pipe jacking. (£0.75M).

Graduate Engineer (1984 to 1985)
Responsible for the design of various marine structures and execution of marine studies. These included the design of a sheet piled wharf and armour stone breakwater to Kilroot Power Station, and a 1000m desalination / cooling water sea outfall to Ras Laffan Desalination and Power Station.

Graduate Engineer (1983 to 1984)
Responsible for the design, inspection and assessment of various bridges, including a two span pre-stressed composite concrete road bridge crossing the River Calder, for BNFL Sellafield (£200,000).

Assistant Resident Engineer Heysham 2 Nuclear Power Station (1982 to 1983)
Supervising the construction of the cooling water pumphouse inside a 25.0 metre deep, 76.0 metre diameter sheet piled cofferdam adjacent to Heysham Harbour. The works included the construction of the anchored foundations and slipformed bulkhead walls. (£22.0M).

Graduate Engineer (1980 to 1982)
Responsible for the design of various marine structures including a temporary barge unloading facility in Heysham Harbour for the delivery of a 1200t gas baffle, a temporary flood protection gabion / trench sheeting wall to protect the construction of the cooling water pumphouse and a Sea Wall overtopping study using a probability matrix of sea level and wave height together with model study results
